Snakes and Ladders

The subtle magic of Snakes and Ladders is how it develops the understanding of mathematics and numbers in your children.

There are few games that are as easy to grasp and compelling for a 5 year old.

Ladders are good.

Snakes are bad.

Roll 2 dice and count to 100.

They will play it over and over.  For hours and hours; no batteries required.
When was the last time you had to add 5 and 2 to get to 7?
It's a basic task; and you will be surprised at how much you take for granted.  Your child may not have made this calculation (Yet!!!).

To see them do it for the first time is amazing; this game illustrates the point nicely and gets them interested in counting in a subtle, non-threatening and fun way.

We recommend Snakes and Ladders highly; your kids will be having "best out of 3's"; counting to 100; all the while looking at combinations of numbers, working towards being able to add 2 sets of numbers quickly.  Perhaps even developing a strategy for the next move; or knowing what number they really do want next.  Very exciting if you like that kind of stuff...
